Natural Nodes
The Park Orman Masterplan called for a series of advanced topographic studies of the forests of northern Istanbul as a means to develop a master plan for this recreational, park and camping area. Using the undulating landscape of Istanbul’s Belgrade Forest as a formal reference the plan envisioned a series of open nodes that were determined by a strategy to minimise the cutting down of trees. These open spaces were joined into a network of zones for sporting and leisure activity. Thus the plan envisioned a number of circular hubs that are tied together through a series of linear triangulations that became the basis of an elevated cable car system. The design continued GAD’s exploration into non-standard geometries as a tool for spatial and programmatic organisation in architecture.
GAD Foundation works to positively affect practice and theory in architecture and urbanism with a focus on education, society and their intersection with architecture and urbanism.
