Re-Imagining Cappadocia 2. Architecture Competition with 3 Award Winning Projects

The GAD Foundation in cooperation with the Indigo Group announces the completion of the architecture competition "Re-Imagining Cappadocia as an Eco District" with 3 submitted projects winning awards. The submitted project by Jiawei - Karwai Liang was given a Gold Mention while Honorable Mention was awarded to the project of Jesus Frias-Garrett Wiese and the Zhimin Ma Team. Organized by the GAD Foundation in collaboration with the Cappadocia based tourism company INDIGO Group, the competition brought together bright minds from the architecture world to envision a sustainable and eco-friendly future for the captivating Cappadocia region.

The competition that ran from April 15, 2023, to July 31, 2023, attracted a diverse pool of talented participants from around the world. Each of the many submissions from all over the world engaged in this challenging endeavor contributed their unique insights and innovative designs to the competition's theme.

The main objective of the competition was to foster creativity and forward-thinking design solutions that respect the geological and ecological intricacies of the Cappadocia region. Participants were tasked with conceptualizing an "Eco-District" that harmonizes with the natural beauty of the Cappadocia region incorporating sustainable practices and embracing a holistic approach to community living.

Throughout the competition period, the submissions demonstrated a remarkable blend of creativity, technical prowess, and dedication to addressing the challenges posed by conceiving of new models of architecture, tourism and living. The projects put forward by the participants showcased their commitment to preserving the heritage of Cappadocia while embracing modern, sustainable, and respectful design principles.

After careful deliberation, the GAD Foundation competition committee identified projects that truly resonated with the competition's objectives and vision.

"We were impressed by the level of innovation and thoughtfulness exhibited by the participants. The projects presented a spectrum of solutions that have the potential to make a lasting impact on architectural practices and sustainable design," remarked the competition committee of the GAD Foundation headed by Gokhan Avcioglu and Gokhan Karakus with Gurkan Güney.
